RICK MAST, NO. 14 CONSECO PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (35th - Running):
(ON WHAT SENT HIM TO THE GARAGE DURING THE RACE) "We had a heim joint on our shifter linkage that fell apart. A heim joint - that never happens. I just feel bad for these Team Conseco guys. They worked real hard on this car this week, working night and day - two nights straight getting this car ready to come up here. The car qualified good and we were running good today. We got off on one of our adjustments, but we made an adjustment and the car was coming back for me. It was real good again and then this happened."
KYLE PETTY, NO. 44 HOT WHEELS PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (41st - Running):
(ON HIS ENGINE FAILURE) "It (the car) was pretty good. It drove really good. I broke one (an engine) last week at Michigan and it broke in the pull, like it pulled a wrist pin out or broke a piston or broke a rod, or something like that. This was the same thing. I came up out of turn two and it was dead in the pull. I don't know if it slapped a rocker arm or if it broke in the bottom end (of the engine). It's hard to tell this time. It wasn't as bad as Michigan, but it broke."
JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 LYCOS PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (34th - Engine):
(ON HIS ENGINE FAILURE) "It was a pretty good run for us. We were good, but there were a couple of cars that I couldn't get by that were holding us up big. I was real fast by myself, just as fast as the leader. But I'd get behind cars and they would hold us up and they were beating us up off the corner. But I think we found out why later in a deal where the engine broke. It didn't give any warning. It just went. There's nothing we can do about that. We had a good race car, and actually the engine was good. It just broke right at the end there."
MIKE BLISS, NO. 27 VIAGRA PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (33rd - Accident):
(ON HIS INCIDENT) "I think we hit something because I saw the '88' (Dale Jarrett) wiggle. I went down in there and it was too late for me to even do anything. It just flat wiggled and took off. We hadn't been loose like that. We'd been tight all day, we'd been loose, and we hadn't found a happy medium. We were just riding along so we'd go home tonight."
WARD BURTON, NO. 22 CATERPILLAR PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (27th - Running):
(ON HOW HE CUT A TIRE) "I had a lapped car (no. 42) put me in the wall. It knocked the heck out of the right side of the car."
KEN SCHRADER, NO. 36 M&M'S PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (18th - Running):
"We weren't that good and we were really bad in a pile. When we restarted there with 15 laps to go we got to 12th, but we were in the middle of the pile and it just didn't work out. But if you take this week and last week, between qualifying and finishing, it's a step."
BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (13th - Running):
"We just missed the set-up today trying to get used to these new generation tires. It loved the old ones. It drives good on old tires. We need to regroup. We just haven't figured it out. But we can't ask for a better day with the situation we had. We had maybe a 10th place race car. We just struggled with the set-up. We just couldn't hit upon it. We tried a lot of different things and we learned a lot for next time. It's just that we couldn't make it work better today.
(ON THE PROBLEM WITH THE CRACKED TAIL PIPE) "It was pretty hot. But thank goodness it wasn't anything internal. We brought it back. We had some things go wrong and that was one of them, and we missed the set-up. That was huge. We just weren't quite there today. But, hey, it could be a lot worse."
TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (6th - Running):
(ON THE RACE) "We were matching Jeremy's (Mayfield) times and he was strong all day. We were really good on certain segments and there were segments where we struggled. We had a good day today. All the guys worked really hard. They had great pit stops. The weak link on pit stops was me today. I cost us some track position at the end. We had a really good day though. I'm glad to be back in the top10 consistently now.
"I'm happy. We've got that consistency back. Anytime you ccan go off two wins and put it right back in the top 10, and we were one spot away from a top five, we'll be happy with that."
(ON THE LAST PIT STOP) "I stalled the car, basically, getting ready to leave. After that we had a hard time getting through traffic."
