The following are facts and figures regarding the cars Pontiac teams will be running during this weekend's NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at Chicagoland.
Michigan native Johnny Benson comes to Chicagoland this weekend ranked eighth in the NASCAR Winston Cup points after posting a 13th place finish last weekend at Daytona. Benson, who is wheeling the car that qualified fourth at Dover, has two top five and seven top 10 finishes in 17 starts this season.
Conseco Pontiac driver Ron Hornaday posted the fastest speed by a Pontiac in Thursday's two practice sessions at Chicagoland (181.849 miles per hour). Hornaday's A.J. Foyt Racing teammates feel good about their chances this weekend and are using the same chassis that they took to Bristol Motor Speedway back in March.
This chassis was new when Bobby Labonte won the pole at California Speedway back in late April. Although he finished 22nd in the race, Labonte and his teammates believe in the chassis and are hoping for their fifth top five of the 2001 season this weekend at Chicagoland.
Tony Stewart comes to Chicagoland this weekend with a chassis that has two starts on it in 2001 and has earned a fourth (California) and a third (Charlotte). Stewart enters this weekend's event ranked fourth in the Winston Cup points and is 201 behind leader Jeff Gordon.
Mike Bliss comes to Chicagoland hoping to put the Duke's Mayonnaise Pontiac in the field for the first time since Dover. The chassis Bliss is driving last appeared at California Speedway, where it finished 37th. The team also attempted to qualify this car at Pocono.
M&M's Pontiac driver Ken Schrader, who is behind the wheel of a brand new chassis, is looking for his fifth top 10 finish of the season this weekend at Chicagoland. Schrader, who is ranked 21st in the Winston Cup point standings, is just 132 points out of the 15th position.
