RON HORNADAY, NO. 14 CONSECO PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
TELL US ABOUT YOUR QUALIFYING RUN "You guys really can't hear it because I was holding my breath for it, so there is nothing really to tell say. "It's a compliment to this whole team. The Conseco Pontiac team has been really stepping up. Ever since we had no more provisionals, we've been really focusing on qualifying. Our runs in the race have been showing it, but our finishes haven't. I think running the Busch car (No. 11) has been helping out. Spring for spring, we're about 50 pounds different in the right front on the Cup car than we are on the Busch car, so everything is working out. We're having a lot of fun."

YOU WERE QUITE A BIT FASTER ON YOUR SECOND LAP...CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT?
"My dad always told me that your first lap is to make the race and your second lap is to break the track record, but that wasn't the case this time. We put a pretty big right front spring in the car and it pushed real bad the first lap because I was trying to hustle the car too much. I finally just had to back off about three car lengths earlier than I had been driving all day and the car cut real good. I used David Evan's horsepower to get that Conseco Pontiac a good lap. We ran a lot of air pressure and I was really surprised that it picked up that much "

YOU WERE GOOD HERE IN THE SPRING, BUT YOU NEVER HAD ANY TRACK POSITION. NOW YOU'VE GOT THAT... "Well, it's not the same car either. That tells you these guys are really getting this whole team together. It's just a matter of figuring out what we need to do."

JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
HOW WAS YOUR LAP? "Terrible. It was just the same problem I always have. I don't know about anybody else, it was just extremely slippery. Anytime they throw 'Happy Hour' right before qualifying it gets extremely slippery. We'll be happy if we're in the top 30."

DO YOU THINK IT'S A DECENT RACE CAR? "I don't know. I'll tell you after 'Happy Hour.'"

RICK MAST, NO. 27 DUKE'S MAYONNAISE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
HOW WAS YOUR LAP? "Loose - real bad loose. I had a little bit of an advantage because I watched the first few cars qualify and they were getting sideways. Nobody was saying on TV what the car was doing, but you kind of knew, so we adjusted our car. We put a round of bite in it and changed a pound of air in the right front. I needed about three times that much to fix it because the car was about neutral at the end of practice. "I don't know if it's because we've never qualified this early or what's going on, but it seemed like it bit everybody."

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THIS PLACE CHANGE THAT MUCH? "No, I never have - not since they concreted it. I don't know why."

KEN SCHRADER, NO. 36 M&M'S PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
ON PICKING UP SO MUCH FROM PRACTICE "We've been up and down all day. We've been good, we've been bad. We still haven't got it, but everyone started slowing down for qualifying and they thought it was slick and that was going to right up our alley. Newt [Moore] had tightened the car up and we just put together one lap."

DO YOU HAVE TO MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS AFTER YOU WATCHED A FEW GUYS QUALIFY? "We were already in trouble before everybody realized it was slick, so we were already geared up for it."

TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
WAS YOUR RUN WHAT YOU EXPECTED? "We made some adjustments right before we went out and thought we adjusted enough for it, but evidently not."

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THIS PLACE CHANGE LIKE THIS BEFORE? "I don't remember. Shoot, we've slipped since the last time I was here."

BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
HOW WAS YOUR RUN? "It was alright. It was a little bit slippery. We practiced a little bit better than that and lose a little bit of speed, but most everybody else did, too. But that's about where we practiced at, so it wasn't too bad. The car was pretty good, really."

DID YOU HAVE ANY HINT THAT THE TRACK HAD LOOSENED UP A LOT SINCE PRACTICE? "Yeah we did see that. We tightened up a little bit on air pressure."
