TONY STEWART, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
YOU WERE REALLY STRONG EARLY, BUT NOT AS STRONG AT THE END...WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE? "I just got tighter as the day went on. The guys kept working on and trying to make changes. We didn't want to get loose. That was the big thing.
"But, we had a really good car there early on. That thing was really rolling around there. That's the best we've ever run here, in my opinion, so I feel like we had a really good day."
BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
COMMENTS FROM VICTORY LANE: "The guys told me that the '25' car was close on gas, but I didn't think anybody was -- but, I can't count very good anyway. They said he was out of gas going into three. Those guys had a great race car all day. It ended up that unfortunately we just weren't quite as good as Jerry [Nadeau] was, so when we battled there at the end and I got around him coming off of turn four, it was a gift at that point in time."
WHAT IS IT ABOUT ATLANTA FOR YOU? "Well, we didn't lead a lot of laps here this time. We still haven't got a good race car, as far as I'm concerned when it comes down to it, to lead laps and stuff like that. [Dale Earnhardt, Jr.] had a great race car today, Jerry had a great race car and we had a good race car. We just ended up at the right place at the right time."
GREG ZIPADELLI, CREW CHIEF, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
YOU HAD TWO CREW MEMBERS EXPERIMENT WITH HELMETS HERE TODAY... "I think it's good. We'll talk and see if it was a distraction to them at all in any way. I don't think it was. Our pit stops were pretty good. We'll just keep working on it. The hockey helmets were a start. Maybe we can get some full-face helmets on them down the road when we can work into it gradually. I'm just glad to see that they're not bucking the system. They're trying to put safety first and still keep our performance there."
MIKE LINGERFELT, FRONT TIRE CHANGER, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
YOU TRIED A HOCKEY HELMET TODAY...WHAT DID YOU THINK? "For a short-term fix, I think it was fine. It didn't bother me in any kind of way. It didn't cause any problems with my vision because it was an open-face helmet. But, I think there are ways we can improve it. I had a little bit of a problems with the ear plugs and hearing some of the things that went on today, but it didn't necessarily affect the stops any, so I'm happy about that. But, I think there is a way we can fix it. I'm just not sure how, yet."
HOW WAS THE WEIGHT OF THE HELMET? "By the time you have weight of the headset and I usually wear a hat, it really wasn't that much heavier than that combination with the hockey helmet on."
DID YOU REALLY NOTICE IT WAS THERE? "I wore it around a lot before the race started, trying to get a little used to it. I felt like once everything got going, the biggest problem I had was the ear plugs. I didn't even realize the actual helmet was on my head."
MARCUS BONICELLI, JACKMAN, NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
YOU TRIED A HOCKEY HELMET TODAY...WHAT DID YOU THINK? "There was really no difference. You can't really tell with the helmet that I wore today. It was the same thing that the hockey players wear and it was fairly light. "During the stops you really couldn't tell. The only time you knew you had it on was when you had to take it off to wipe the sweat off. Other than that, visibility was the same. I think that would be the type of helmet to wear, just because of visibility and it's real light. You can't tell [it's on]. It doesn't hurt your neck. Other than that, I'll be wearing it for as long as I jump the wall until something else comes up."
DID YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE EAR PLUGS OR ANYTHING? "No, I didn't. I think it just depends on how far you shove them up in there. I didn't have any problems at all really. Actually with that type of ear plug, you can actually hear a little better.
"Other than that, I thought it felt good. It was a good trial."
