A lawsuit has been set into motion against Pocono Raceway and the sanctioning body, NASCAR.
A lawsuit has been filed against NASCAR and Pocono Raceway, according to a report published by the Pocono Record. The widow of 41 year-old Brian Zimmerman who was struck by lightning and killed at the track on August 5th, 2012, claims that the series didn't do enough to protect the fans and avoid such a tragedy.
Nine other fans were also injured by lightning in the rain-shortened race. Zimmerman was standing behind the frontstretch grandstands near his car when he was struck and went into cardiac arrest. The wrongful death suit has been filed just before the two-year statute of limitations on the case expires.
A friend of Zimmerman's (Jason Pencek) who was also injured in the lightning strike filed his own suit earlier this year, claiming to have suffered 'disabling injuries.'
