Waltrip's finish was key among the points race. Second-place Jeff Gordon wrecked, finishing 36th and fourth-place Bobby Labonte blew an engine resulting in a 30th-place finish. Waltrip and team stand only seven points out of the fifth-place, nine points out of fourth and 131 points out of the third spot.

"All of our pit stops today had minor adjustments," said Labbe. "Michael really had a grasp on turns two and three and we were just slightly off in turn one. He gave us good information and were able to tweak the car just a little bit on each pit stop. I went a little too far with air pressure on the last run, but he was able to hold off (Terry) Labonte and gave Dale Jr. a run for his money."

"It was a good day for our team and an even better day in the points. I think the media expects this team to lose its momentum, but we keep coming back for more. I am telling you, this team is here to stay.'

"Today our car was good, not lucky," explained Waltrip. "It's luck when things happen in your favor for no apparent reason. We had a strategy, and a plan and the NAPA team implemented that plan. Everything went perfect until the last run when we, unfortunately, got way too tight. The thing I like about Pocono is there are a lot of grooves out there and I could goof around and find other places to run and pick up time. We preserved a top-five finish today. I'm proud of my team and their effort."

Waltrip finished 16th at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last year, the site of the nest Winston Cup race.
