RIGGS FINISHES 33RD IN POCONO

LONG POND, Pa. (July 24, 2005)-- A combination of bad luck and a tight race car resulted in a 33rd-place finish for Scott Riggs in Sunday's Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway.

A lack of caution periods early in the 200-lap event forced Nextel Cup teams to begin a green-flag pit cycle. Riggs brought the Valvoline Chevrolet down pit road where the team quickly made adjustments to the car and sent him back to competition. However, just one lap later the yellow flag waved and the Valvoline team was put one lap down.

"We got caught in the pits early on the green flag pit-cycle and could never make up for the loss," explained Riggs. "You always hold your breath when you have to make a stop under green and hope everything cycles out. This time we got unlucky.

"We tried and tried, but could never get back on the lead lap," he continued. "We fought the same problem all day with the car not wanting to rotate in the center of the corner. The guys made a lot of good changes that helped out and we ran some good lap times, but we just couldn't get freed up enough to really race.

"It certainly wasn't a lack of effort on anyone's part. We made a lot of changes, tried a lot of things and learned a little bit today. We just have to keep digging. This is a talented team. We know what we're capable of and we're ready to show it."

The Nextel Cup Series will enjoy their last off weekend before heading to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard on Aug 7.
