Engine Failure Limits NAPA Team to 36th

Pocono, Penn. (Aug. 2) -  The No. 15 NAPA AUTO PARTS team produced another strong run for veteran driver Michael Waltrip Sunday, but an engine failure at the halfway point relegated Waltrip to a 36th-place finish in the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway.

Waltrip, who qualified 11th for the 20th race of the season, ran in the top-15 thoughout the first half.  Smoke forced Waltrip to pit and eventually sent the No. 15 car to the garage on lap 100 where the car was diagnosed with engine trouble.

"The car started running puny and began smoking," Waltrip explained.  "The NAPA Chevy suffered a rare mechanical failure when something let go in the engine.  We ran solidly in the top-10 and the car was performing well when this happened, so it was tough to park such a good race car."

Of the last 11 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races, only the two visits to Pocono Raceway has Waltrip finished outside of the top-13.

Waltrip lost one position (17th) in the NASCAR point standings heading into this weekend's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The race will be broadcast live by NBC and MRN Radio at 2:00 p.m. (EDT).
