Kyle Busch, No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST Monte Carlo SS, met with members of the media and discussed his chances at Pocono, what NASCAR needs to do to grow, racing at Watkins Glen, overheating brakes at Pocono, his chances for the Chase and the championship and jeopardizing points by going for a win that may not be possible.
Select quotes from driver interview:
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR CHANCES ARE FOR THIS RACE? "I think we've got a shot to win any week but last time we were here we had a great race car. It was fun. We had a shot - I think Denny Hamlin and (Tony) Stewart were really, really good. Ryan Newman was also pretty good as well as Martin Truex. We've got to catch up to those guys a little bit but I think there's going to be a heck of a battle there for second and third."
WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NEXT STEP FOR NASCAR IS? "I think we're pretty big already, but to grow it even more, I guess the next step is to go international. The Busch Series has been doing a pretty good job of it so far with the Mexico City race and now this weekend in Montreal, we'll see how that goes. As far as the Cup series, I don't know if NASCAR is happy with the races we have here where they feel like we don't need to go outside or if there's already too many races here where we can't go outside. All in all I think you have to look at it from a competitive standpoint."
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE TUNNEL TURN HERE? "The tunnel turn, the biggest thing about it is it's almost a 90 degree turn. It's just so fast but yet so narrow, and really it's one-groovish, so you have to get through there really smooth and hit your mark every time and not over-drive the corner. If you over-drive your corner and you get up too high on the exit, if you over-brake then you get down and you hit the inside curve. So it's a pretty tricky little corner but I think it's where guys really show what they've got around this place."
