JEREMY MAYFIELD QUOTES
"We can't do anything different now just because we're in the top 10. We were in and out of the top 10 a couple of times last year and then fell to 15th. We don't want to do that this year. I'd say only the top three guys are safely in the top 10 right now. You can go from fourth to 10th or from eighth to 15th quickly."
"Our Dodge Chargers are getting better and better. When our cars are right, I can go. The problem is finding the balance, and we're starting to get hold of that right now. I keep saying that and saying that, but when it's right we'll go. We've got to get the best out of the car that we can, but it always makes you look better when your car is good. It makes you look like a great driver."
"We're going in the right direction. We've been going in the right direction a couple of years. It's a slow process because we've had to deal with changes, spoiler change, body change, crew chief change. We've had a lot of changes and we're still solid. That's a good sign. I think we're definitely going in the right direction. It's just a matter of maintaining and continuing on that pace."
"Pocono is one of my favorite tracks. It's produced a couple of great moments in my career and I'm confident there are some great things in store for our Evernham Motorsports team. We'll be looking to put it all together this weekend."
JEREMY MAYFIELD AT POCONO
This weekend will mark Mayfield's 23nd career start at Pocono Raceway. He has won twice at the track in the June races of 1998 and 2000. He has earned four top fives, nine top 10s, and has led six races for a total of 187 laps led.
Mayfield earned his best starting position at the track (third) en route to his 1998 victory.
MAYFIELD SURGES TO EIGHTH IN POINTS RACE
After racing at New Hampshire, Mayfield gained ground in his race to repeat as a Chase contender. He has surged to eighth in the points standings, and is just 62 points from the fifth spot.
Mayfield's current point total of 2,285 is 42 points ahead of his total after 19 races in 2004. Mayfield qualified for the 2004 Chase for the Nextel Cup by just 22 points after a thrilling victory at Richmond.
LEAVING NOTHING ON THE TABLE
Mayfield ranks second on the Nextel Cup circuit in laps completed (99.2%) among drivers who have competed in every race this year. Mayfield has finished 12 of 19 races on the lead lap, and has only one DNF in 2005.
HISTORY OF VICTORY
Mayfield posted his first career Cup Series victory at Pocono Raceway, June 1, 1998 in his 125th career start. Mayfield passed Darrell Waltrip for the lead with 20 laps to go in the race, and his 132 laps led were the most of any driver on that day.
The No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger team tested at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Monday, July 12. Mayfield turned 134 laps on the historic 2.5-mile track to prepare for the August 7, Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.
