How was the car today?
"We were happy with the car in qualifying trim. Now I hope we can do it again tomorrow. We're going out 40th and I don't think that's quite ideal. But, we're happy to be running well, at least in practice, and we'll see if we can qualify it alright.
Any issues with the tires?
"I didn't have any problems with the tires. I'm pretty sure it's the same tire as the spring race, so I don't know if they solved the tire issue, but the racetrack might be better in turn two."
Are you getting used to not shifting here?
"Not shifting here does make a big difference, but it's a big difference for everybody and everybody is the same, so it's just a matter of less horsepower to the ground because of the gear ratio. It's not as exciting as when we shifted -- that used to give us something to do on the straightaways. Now, since we aren't shifting, I'll be looking around for deer, turkeys and rabbits."
Rusty Wallace, Driver of the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger
How did things go in practice?
"The car was pretty good today. I fought tight all day and never could get the ride I was looking for. That's what we kept working on. The car rides real rough on the racetrack. The big bump over in the tunnel turn was bothering me. But then we got the car better and better and better. I just did a qualifying run that was pretty good but not as good as we want to be. I've got some more changes we want to make for tomorrow and I feel like we'll be okay then."
Do you get sentimental when you come to someplace like Pocono for the last time?
"I'm really not even thinking about it being my last race here. I'm really not. Just about the time I'd get sentimental about it, then I'd have to do it 36 times. Right now I'm just trying to keep it strong and in the top 10 and get good finishes. That's my main goal right now."
How much will not shifting be a factor this weekend?
"Not shifting here is easier on the driver, but it makes it a lot harder to pass because you don't have as much power getting up off the corner. You find yourself following someone more instead of accelerating up to them because you don't have enough power to pull yourself up past them. It makes for bad racing, but the good thing is it's easier on the driver."
Sterling Marlin, Driver of the No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Charger
How was the car in practice?
"Well the car isnt' bad, but we were real tight all day. We were fast, but if we get it driving better we'll be faster. We've just got to get it freed up. We'll look at some stuff tonight. We've been bottoming out so we had to stiffen it up, and that made it better but we're still bouncing. "We did a couple of qualifying runs in this session, and went back to race runs. I don't think the heat is going to make a difference at all. Let it get hot. I think the tires will be fine."
