Clint Bowyer, No. 07 Camping World/RVs.com Monte Carlo SS, met with members of the media and discussed today's practice session, if he feels like the forgotten driver in the top 12, how much he watches the points, on why he's steadily in the Chase but not able to get the top fives and victories, if minds being overlooked by the fans, what makes the tunnel turn unique here, how the upcoming tracks suit him leading to the Chase, on plans to go dirt racing, on being a part of the Chase, if there's a way to make this race any more exciting, if it's hard to keep his attention focused during the race here, if there's pressure being on the bubble for the Chase and if he expected to be in the position he is in now at the start of the season.
Select quotes from driver interview:
HOW WAS PRACTICE? "Pretty good. We struggled right off the bat. I think the track had some of that Hoosier rubber on it. It was obviously pretty hot and slick so it took us a while to get the hang of it but Gil (Martin) made a couple good changes and I think it's alright. We qualified good here in the spring so we got to back that up. Hopefully this weather will stay away so we can."
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE THE FORGOTTEN MAN IN THE TOP 12? "As long as they don't forget about me when it comes time (laughs). It doesn't bother me one bit. I'm just trying to stay consistent, keep doing what we're doing. That's what got us this far and hopefully that will get us in the Chase. I think that will be good enough to get us in the Chase if we don't have any trouble. From there we got to find that next step. We got to get in the top fives and start racing for wins and race for the championship."
WHY DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ABLE TO BE STEADY AND IN THE TOP 12 BUT NOT ABLE TO CRACK THOSE TOP FIVES AND GET INTO VICTORY LANE? "I think it's just a good team. We're just solid right now. Like I said, we just got to find that next step to where we're running in the top five and finishing in the top five and ready to compete in them for a win."
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS MISSING? "I don't really know. We've ran in the top five several times, we just haven't got that finish. But the difference between this year and last year was last year we'd finish 30th to 40th, you know crashed, and we've been able to get a top five or top 10 out of it. We got the consistency down, that's what we really focused on and concentrated on over the winter but now it's time to see what we got."
HOW DO THE UPCOMING TRACKS SUIT YOU THAT LEAD UP TO THE CHASE? "Aside from Watkins Glen I'm pretty confident we can be good. Obviously that's going to be the one that I'll have my eye on and have to be careful with."
