Marlin Finishes 27th in Phoenix

PHOENIX (April 21, 2007)-- Sterling Marlin finished 27th in Saturday night's Nextel Cup event at Phoenix International Raceway.

Marlin started the Subway Fresh Fit 500 from the 37th spot andstruggled with the handling of hisWaste Management Chevrolet throughout the event. But late in the race, the veteran driver looked to beclosing in on a top-20 finish beforea caution came out just after the team made a green-flag pit stop.

Marlin had just returned to the one-mile oval following thatstop when the yellow flag waved for atwo-car accident on Lap 284 of 312. Following the caution period, the Ginn Racing driver restarted the race in the 27th position and was unable to gain any positions in the closing minutes. J"We struggled tonight," said Marlin. "We made a lot of changes, but this Waste Management car never did click. It looked like we were going to have a clean race and salvage a top-20, but then thatcaution came out and we were done."

Crew chief Slugger Labbe added, "I think we would've had a 17th or 18th place finish if we hadn't gotten caught on that green-flag stop, but that's part of it. We weren't where we needed to be all night, so we've got some work to do."

"Sterling has a great history at Talladega and this organization is known for its superspeedway equipment," added Labbe. "We'll head back to the shop and get ready for a strong run next week."

Next week's race, the Aaron's 499, will be broadcast live from Talladega Superspeedway (April 29).
