Marlin Posts Season-Best Finish at Phoenix

PHOENIX (April 22, 2006) -- Sterling Marlin posted a season-best 12th-place finish in Saturday night's Subway Fresh 500 here at Phoenix International Raceway.

"This was a pretty good day for the Waste Management team," said Marlin, who started the 312-lap event 16th. "We had a decent qualifying effort and were able to run in the top 15 for the majority of the race. Consistency is the key in this series and today's performance is the kind this team needs right now."

The NEXTEL Cup event started at 5:30 p.m. local time under sunny skies with temperatures hovering in the mid 90s. It ended under-the-lights, approximately three hours later.

"There was a point there in the middle of the race where the Waste Management Chevy got really tight and we fell back a little bit. But the team rallied, my crew chief Doug Randolph made the appropriate changes in the pits, and we were able to drive back to a respectable finish.

"When you go from day to night, it makes for a difficult situation to have the right setup in the car for the entire race. But we did a pretty good job. We came to Phoenix looking for a good result and we got it. Now we can head to Talladega with a little momentum."

The next stop for the NASCAR Nextel Cup circuit will be next Sunday, April 30, at Talladega Superspeedway.
