Experience at Phoenix Means Everything for Rookie Driver
Conway and ExtenZe Racing Team Hoping for Best Results Yet
Statesville, N.C. (April 6, 2010) - Kevin Conway and the No. 38 ExtenZe Ford Racing team are getting geared up for Saturday night's Subway Fresh Fit 600 at the flat, one-mile Phoenix International Raceway - a track where Conway has some experience. Conway has both a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series start at the triangular-shaped oval.
Conway continues to lead the Cup Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings by 40 points over his competitor Terry Cook and is heading to Phoenix coming off his fifth consecutive Rookie of the Race award. The ExtenZe Racing team is hoping experience at the flat, one-mile oval will help them to their best finish yet in 2010.
ExtenZe Racing Driver Kevin Conway Comments on Phoenix International Raceway:
"As we head into Phoenix, it is one racetrack that I really love. I ran there for the first time last year in the Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series, both in the same weekend. It allowed me to gain a ton of experience on the track. I just think having some experience and being familiar with a track again is going to be a big advantage for us.
"This is really a different track. It has a tremendous amount of character to it. There is a dogleg off of the second turn that is unique and challenging. Turns 3 and 4 are more sweeping turns. There is a second groove in Turns 3 and 4 where you can really get to the outside and make it work. It's a track where the driver is going to make the difference between a good lap and a bad one.
"It's a very 'racy' racetrack, too. I enjoy that. It combines the speed of some of the bigger racetracks we go to and has some of the same characteristics of a short track, too. You need to be up on the wheel and really drive this track. You need to find a good balance to the car to help you drive around guys. It's a constant challenge to race the track and keep your car handling well.
"For us, it's going to be about getting all the laps, but really hoping for a better finish, too. We haven't had a lot of races where we didn't have any problems at all. We've had a lot of small things that have kept us out of the top-25 in races that we felt we could be stronger at. We just want that one race with no problems.
"Still, the goal is to get all the laps, gain more experience and get better all weekend. This ExtenZe Racing team is working hard, getting better and I'm getting more comfortable, too. We're making strides, and Phoenix is going to be a good opportunity for us to gain a good finish and collect a lot of points. I'm looking forward to this weekend."
