Paul Menard currently stands in the 23rd position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings
Paul Menard"s Thoughts on Phoenix International Raceway: "Phoenix is an interesting track. It"s a fun race and it al-ways feels like a bit of a sprint because it"s only 312 laps. It just feels a lot shorter than a lot of the others. From a driver"s standpoint, one of the problems you run into on raceday in Phoenix is that the sun starts to set and it"s really hard to see going into turn one, but everybody knows it will happen and everyone is on the same boat, so you just so the best you can.
"My pit crew really stepped up to the plate last week after having struggled a bit for the last month or so, so even though we may only have a couple of races left in the schedule, every person on the Richard Petty Motorsports team is still giving it his all."
Crew Chief Slugger Labbe"s Thoughts on PIR: "This weekend we"ve got a whole different schedule than we did the last time we were here in the spring, so it"s tough to be able to use a lot of the things that you learned during that race because so much of the race was run after the sun set.
"There will be some opportunities as far as two tires versus four goes. If you need track position, you can usually take two and have it work out pretty well for you and it"s always good to have that option. The biggest challenge this track presents is the different shape of the track in the corners. You really have to be able to compromise on your setup because you"re never going to get your car handling perfectly in all four corners. If you get one and two figured out, you"ll struggle in three and four and vice versa."
Chassis History: Crew chief Slugger Labbe and the No. 98 RPM crew have prepared chassis No. 693 for this weekend"s event. This is the same Ford Fusion that the team ran at the event at California Speedway where Menard qualified 24th and took the checkered flag in 22nd place.
Menard, who is also racing full-time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, has posted four top-five and 18 top-10 finishes in 33 starts this year in that Series. Menard holds down fifth place in the Nationwide point standings. Menard will once again get back behind the wheel of his Roush Fenway Racing Ford for Saturday"s Nationwide Series event.
