New Team Best in the Sprint Cup Garage
Statesville, N.C. (April 6, 2010) - The No. 37 Taco Bell Ford team heads into Saturday night's Subway Fresh Fit 600 with the goal of another top-20 finish. The team is coming off a 19th-place finish at Martinsville and now heads into a track where driver David Gilliland has a win. Gilliland is a past winner at the track in the West Series.
The finish at Martinsville was the best for anyone at Front Row Motorsports this season and helped Gilliland climb to 34th in driver standings. Gilliland missed the season-opening event while competing for another team. The Taco Bell Ford team, led by crew chief Randy Seals, is in its first year together and has been the most impressive start-up team in the sport.
Comments from Taco Bell Driver David Gilliland on Phoenix and the Start of 2010:
"The start of this season with Front Row Motorsports has been pretty good. It's been better than maybe what we expected, and we've been pleased with the quick progress we've made. I think people have to remember that this team was formed in January of this year. That's just four months ago and we're putting together a top-20 performance after just five races together. That's pretty amazing.
"We're hopeful for another good run this weekend. Phoenix is a great place for me. I've won races there in a lot of other divisions, not yet in the Cup Series, but hopefully soon. Hopefully this could be the weekend, but we're still happy taking steps forward with this team. Another top-20 or even a top-15 would be awesome.
"I'm just really looking forward to going out there. I'm from California, and Phoenix is just one of those tracks that are a big deal for a guy from the West. Growing up, it's a place I went with my dad. It was the biggest race of the West Coast when we raced out there. It's something I put a lot of effort into. I want to run well because we have a lot of friends and family that go out to that racetrack to come and visit us and see us. It's definitely important for me to run good out there in front of my hometown crowd.
"I'm just really ready to get there. We had a great run at Martinsville and I was ready to race again. We had the break for Easter weekend and I'm ready to get going. We have some positive momentum and I feel that it's going to carry into this weekend. I feel good about the way things are going."
