HARRISBURG, N.C. (April 22, 1998)

Mattei Motorsports announced Wednesday that they have promoted Pete Peterson to crew chief of the No. 7 Philips Ford Taurus driven by Geoff Bodine in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.

Peterson, 50, replaces Tim Brewer, who has left the team. The 23-year racing veteran joined Mattei Motorsports late in the 1997 season.

Peterson previously worked as crew chief at Darrell Waltip Motorsports (1994-96). He has worked with drivers such as Benny Parsons, Cale Yarborough, Buddy Baker, Tim Richmond, Geoff Bodine and Bill Elliott.

"In this sport, it's people who make the difference," Bodine said. "Pete has the experience and capabilities needed to be a crew chief. I am very confident with Pete and feel he'll be a great asset to the team."

Bodine and the No. 7 Philips Ford team have struggled in 1998. Bodine is currently 26th in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series point standings. Source: NASCAR Online
