MOORESVILLE, NC -- Effective immediately, Pete Rondeau has been promoted to crew chief of the Dale Earnhardt. Inc. No. 15 NAPA Chevrolet driven by Michael Waltrip in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.
Rondeau has served as car chief on the NAPA Chevrolet since joining DEI in 2002.
Richie Gilmore, Director of Motorsports, said, "Pete has been a tremendous asset as a car chief here at Dale Earnhardt, Inc. We've seen in the races he's run for us this year with Dale Jr., Ron Fellows and Tony Stewart that Pete is an incredible team player.
"As a crew chief for those races, Pete demonstrated what he learned during the weekend was readily available to the other two teams. At the level of competition this sport is at now, that's what it takes to be in the top-10 for the Chase for the Championship.
"When we talked about when to make the transition, we initially thought this would be something that we would do at the end of the 2004 season. In looking at it a little closer, we decided we would go ahead and make the change now and try to win a race or two before the end of the 2004 season,"
"I'm just grateful for the opportunity," Rondeau said. "I'm dedicated to doing whatever I need to do to win races. The company's vote of confidence convinces me that we can do just that."
Richard "Slugger" Labbe will now assist the title efforts for both the Chance 2 Motorsports and No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet teams. In addition, Labbe will oversee development programs for the No. 11 Menards BGN effort and the No. 15 NAPA team. Labbe served as crew chief on the No. 15 NAPA Chevrolet for the past three years.
