Park Loudon notes

Earnhardt, Inc.-owned #1 Pennzoil Chevrolet Monte Carlo heads to Loudon, N.H., for the Dura Lube 300 this Sunday afternoon at New Hampshire International Speedway; shown live on TNN beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Ø Running into some trouble in the July event, Steve Park is determined to rebound from the 28th-place finish he posted during the rain-shortened 300. Park was running in the 18th spot when the #1 Pennzoil Chevrolet ran out of gas, sliding him back several positions.

Ø Leading for 130 laps during the Chevrolet Monte Carlo 400 this past weekend in Richmond, Va., Park nearly doubled the number of laps he held onto the point for this season since until Saturday night he had led for a total of 148 laps. His fourth-place finish marked the eighth time this season the 33-year-old has finished in the top 10. Before Richmond, Park was 110 points from the 11th spot; however, with the fourth-place finish, he has moved to within 18 points of moving up the ladder.

Ø Park has extensive experience on the 1-mile track at New Hampshire International coming from Connecticut and New York, racing in the modified and Busch North series. In the modified series, Park gained experience running in a car with a restrictor plate as the open cars were slowed by the airflow.

Ø To see how a Winston Cup vehicle would respond on the shorter track, the Pennzoil team traveled to the Milwaukee Mile on Wednesday to run a restrictor plate to see how the #1 Monte Carlo would perform on a mile track at the slower speeds.

Steve Park:
"NASCAR did what they though was necessary," said Park, in response to the restrictor plate rule. "It will definitely slow the cars down, I'm just worried that it will put us closer to the wall since we'll have to go in deeper. My modified experience should come in handy though."

"We just weren't sure how the car would respond at Loudon so we wanted to test it out," said crew chief Paul Andrews. "I know that some teams are using dynos and computer systems to figure out what to expect but we felt it behooved us more to put the car on the track so we went to Milwaukee."

"This has been a great year for me and the Pennzoil team," said Park, who has posted four top-five finishes this season. "The guys have been working real hard on improving the pit stops and I think they have shown what they are truly capable of. I knew we could do it (great finishes); it was just a matter of putting everything together. The top-10 in points is a little out of our reach but that doesn't mean we won't quit trying."
