I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving holiday. ===== Bill France, president of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, will return to the United States and his Daytona Beach home Monday, Dec. 1, after passing all appropriate medical tests Friday at a hospital in Tokyo, Japan.
The battery of tests followed by one week the angioplasty procedure that was performed on Mr. France in another Japanese hospital. Mr. France had complained of shortness of breath upon arrival in the country to attend the NASCAR Thunder Special - Suzuka exhibition stock car race at the Suzuka Circuit in Suzuka City. (NASCAR Online) ===== To get this out of the way, and so maybe I won't receive any more e-mails pointing this out to me, Ricky Craven's Busch series crew chief and another crewman were arrested in Ontario and charged with sexual assault on Nov. 26. ===== Here's a note from Tim Noske, one of our Australian readers, concerning Jim Richards' performance at the recent Suzuka exibition race. I quote Tim:
"Further to Jim Richards performance in Japan, it seems that his strong qualifying result made the WC teams stand up and take notice as they had never heard of Jim prior to this race - or even knew NASCAR's raced in Australia!
Jim apparently dominated the first practice session, then missed the second session while making setup changes to the car and then only narrowly missed Pole!
As the race was run in dry conditions, and the team did no dry practice runs, it was a guess as to the correct dry race setup. It seems that the car was quick on fresh tires but was a 'dog' once they wore out.
He stayed in second until lap 70 and a problem in the pits caused him to slip back to 6 (still on the lead lap) where he remained until the end.
Jim says he was happy just to be the first "Non-WC" driver to finish.
If anyone's interested in the NASCAR, or motorracing in general, down under style they can E-mail me." (mailto:email@example.com). Thanks, Tim. ===== The Winston Cup Scene (11-27 issue) reports that contrary to published reports that Washington-Erving Motorsports team will not be sponsored by 7-UP. (Jayski) =====
