NASCARFans E-Mail List ===== I received mail from Bill, in Concord, North Carolina, this morning. I thought I'd pass it along. It's in response to the template story from this morning's post. I quote:

"The templates used by NASCAR and all the teams come from Richardson Racing Products in Concord, NC. They are also a supplier of racing seats, dump and catch cans, and other select parts for racing. Please acknowledge this company, they take a lot of flack from the teams when the templates are not ready, due to the constant changes in rules by NASCAR."

Thanks, Bill. ===== Everybody knows how important it is to finish on top in the Winston Cup championship. The title is worth a cool $1.5 million, and the prestige that goes along with it is probably worth at least that much.

But the battle up front is no more heated than the fight that is taking place for the 10th position in the season standings, with only 142 points separating ninth-place Ted Musgrave from 15th-place Ricky Rudd going into Sunday's ACDelco 400 at North Carolina Motor Speedway.

"Finishing in the top 10 would mean a lot to our team," said Ken Schrader, in his first year driving Andy Petree's No. 33 Skoal Bandit. "It would show the progress this team has made this season, and it would get us up on stage in New York."

He was referring to the annual awards banquet in New York City, where the 10 best finishers in the Winston Cup standings are called to the stage to receive a check.

With three races to go, ninth and 10th are still up for grabs.

Rusty Wallace is 10th, 80 points behind Musgrave.

But Schrader is just two points behind Wallace and only five better than Johnny Benson Jr.

Eighteen points behind Benson is Jeremy Mayfield, with Ernie Irvan three points further back and Ricky Rudd 34 behind Irvan.

"It's not the championship, but it does mean something to us," Irvan said. "With the competition the way it is now, finishing in the top 10 would be an accomplishment to be proud of." (News-Journal) =====
