One of our readers wrote me just now and reported that his local paper, the Virginia Pilot, of Norfolk, Virginia, has a column today from Larry Bonko (Bonko is an national entertainment (television) columnist) which states:
"Roush Racing of Liberty NC, says its multimillion-dollar deal with the Family Channel to sponsor driver Ted Musgrave in NASCAR competition will end in a few weeks. ........it was no surprise... Since Rupert Murdoch, in league with Saban Entertainment, bought FAM the shakeups have measured 5.0 on the Richter scale. Layoffs at FAM's Virginia Beach headquarters are numerous. And now comes word it's adios to Musgrave and his #16 Ford Thunderbird, which hasn't won a Winston Cup race."
The way the article is written makes it sounds like Roush is getting rid of Musgrave. Although Musgrave has not won, he has been a very consistent and competitive driver as of late. My guess is that it just means another sponsor search for Roush for this team for 1998.
I checked the Virginia Pilot home page (http://www.pilotonline.com), but could not find the story anywhere yet, nor have I seen this anywhere else yet.
Thanks to "r/O'Grady" for sending me this. More info to come as it is available.
