Concord, NC--Ryan Newman was set to start Sunday's 500 mile event from the fourth position, but following an accident late in Saturday's final practice session, Newman and his Penske crew will be forced to the back of the pack.

Newman ran the fastest lap in the first 45 minute session in his Alltel Ford. Late in the second and final 45 minute session, he lost control of the car and slammed the retaining wall, forcing his team to pull out the back-up car.

"I just got loose. I didn't hit anything or do anything. I just got loose and couldn't save it," commented the Raybestos Rookie of the Year point leader.

Newman won the Winston All-Star event at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in May and is confident the back-up will be just as strong as his primary car. "It's gonna take some time to get up front, if we've got a car that's capable, which I think we will. Then, it's going to be the same game it's been all year, track position, pit strategy and missing the accidents."
