Nemechek, U.S. Army Team Complete Preseason Testing

The following is what U.S. Army driver Joe Nemechek had to say about the recently completed four-day West Coast test sessions at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) and California Speedway (Feb. 2-3).

"We were decent in Vegas, but there were four or five cars that were better than us. We learned some things but knew we were off a little. we never got the balance quite perfect on the U.S. Army Chevrolet.

"We brought one new car and also the car I ran well with last year. The new Army Chevy seems to be a little better. We're just trying to make gains on all of the things we can and trying to get used to the shorter spoiler on the back. You have to do a lot of things to your car to make it drive well with the new spoiler rules.

"We ran pretty good in California. I qualified great there last year for both races. I think I have another good car for the track. We mainly worked on race setup and getting comfortable with the small spoiler. Getting in the corners was challenging and we're just trying to figure it all out.

"The wind was terrible in California and when it gusts like it did,it actually blew the cars around-- not blowing across but kind of diagonal. It made the car-loose in Turn 2 and made you twist real bad in Turn 4. We just had to deal with it and learn what we could.

"We'll be ready when we get back to California and Las Vegas. We ended last year with a lot of momentum and we're ready to continue that in 2005. I think we're in a great position."
