NASCAR sends Truex to the rear after apparent body manipulation
Martin Truex Jr. has been sent to the rear of the field prior to the start of Sunday's race at Dover after NASCAR noticed something they did not like.
The No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet was pulled from the grid and taken back into the garage during driver introductions at Dover International Speedway.
The team was forced to take their machine back to the inspection bay as NASCAR official David Green ascertained the infraction could not be officially determined visually.
After taking an intimate look at the right rear, officials ordered the team to make adjustments to the right-rear wheel well, which appeared to be bowed outward. The car returned to the grid soon after, but lost their ninth-place starting position.
Crew chief Cole Pearn has been told by NASCAR that dropping to the rear of the field will serve as the team’s only penalty.
Truex comes into this eliminator race 15 points above the cut line.
