NASCAR red flags Cup race after big wreck
Eight-car pileup stalls race-delayed Folds of Honor/Quik Trip 500
HAMPTON, Ga. – An eight-car wreck ignited the 10th caution at Atlanta Motor Speedway with 20 laps remaining in the Folds of Honor/ Quik Trip 500.
Before the field could complete the first lap following the ninth caution, Greg Biffle turned sideways in Turn 3 coming through the corner and collected Joe Nemechek, Sam Hornish Jr., Kyle Larson, Clint Bowyer, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Tony Stewart and Regan Smith. Stenhouse was the only car unable to continue.
The race was red-flagged for nine minutes and one second.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I had a heck of a run around that junk,” said Nemechek.
Stewart, who was already two laps off the pace, said, “I got slowed down, the guy behind me didn’t.”
On the restart, Brett Moffitt spun his tires and Kevin Harvick got into the back of the No, 55 Toyota. To the right of the leaders, Bowyer, who was down a cylinder, went high to get out of the way.
The race restarted with 14 laps remaining.
