JGR swaps out Kyle Busch's pit crew ahead of NASCAR playoffs
Joe Gibbs Racing will swap pit crews on one of its Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff-bound teams.
A JGR spokesman confirmed to Motorsport.com on Tuesday that the organization is swapping the pit crews between its Nos. 18 and 19 Toyota teams ahead of Sunday’s playoff opener at Chicagoland Speedway.
“It was an organizational decision to make the change and something we think best positions us for the playoffs,” a statement provided by a JGR spokesman said.
Kyle Busch’s No. 18 team enters the 16-driver, 10-race playoffs as one of the favorites for this season’s championship. He has won two races this season and is seeded third in the playoffs.
Rookie Daniel Suarez is currently 20th in the series standings, with one top-five and nine top-10 finishes this season. He earned his career-best third-place finish at Watkins Glen, N.Y., last month.
