Earnhardt’s multi-year deal will offer a variety of media opportunities in addition to NBC’s NASCAR coverage. NBC will also partner with the driver’s other properties including Dirty Mo Media and Hammerhead Entertainment.

“We are excited to welcome Dale Jr. to our team – both on and off the track,” said Mark Lazarus, Chairman, NBC Broadcasting and Sports. “As a company, NBCUniversal allows for talent to stretch themselves across not just their field of expertise, but across other areas of their interests in the media world.”

After 19 years on the Monster Energy Cup Series tour, Earnhardt announced in April that 2017 would be his last. The third-generation racer won two Xfinity Series title before graduated to Cup, where he’s earned 26 wins and 14 poles in 615 starts. Since 2008, Earnhardt has piloted the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy.

Before the NBC Sports segment of the season kicked off at Daytona, NBC Sports Exec Producer Sam Flood said on June 29, having Earnhardt on the team “would be a nice problem to have.”

“He’s a special character in the sport,” Flood said. “He has a lot to offer. His passion for the sport is clear, his love for the history of the sport and what it means to him to his family and the people out there is neat.”

Earnhardt has been voted NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver for 14-straight years.

“It is a tremendous honor not only to join NBC Sports next year but to begin a new career alongside people who love NASCAR as much as I do,” said Earnhardt. “To be reunited with Steve Letarte, to be able to call legends like Jeff Burton, Dale Jarrett and Kyle Petty teammates rather than just friends, to be able to continue going to the track and connecting with race fans, it’s a privilege I don’t take lightly. I will devote my heart and soul to this broadcast team and pledge my very best to the millions who watch it.”
