NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France has been arrested after a police stop in The Hamptons Sunday evening.

Sunday, August 6th, at 7:30pm EST., CEO and Chairman of NASCAR Brian France was arrested for "aggravated driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree."

Per a report from TMZ, he failed a field sobriety test with a blood alcohol level that was more than twice the legal limit. The controlled substance in question was Oxycodone pills.

The arrest took place in Sag Harbor, New York when an officer pulled over the 56-year-old for driving through a stop sign in 2017 Lexus.

NASCAR has since issued the following statement: “We are aware of an incident that occurred last night and are in the process of gathering information. We take this as a serious matter and will issue a statement after we have all of the facts.”

France, whose grandfather Bill France Sr. founded NASCAR in 1948, has served as the sport's CEO since 2003.

UPDATE: Brian France has announced he will take an "indefinite leave of absence."
