Multi-car wreck stalls first Daytona practice - video

Before the 10-minute mark in the first practice for the Coke Zero 400, a multi-car wreck occurred in Turn 2 at Daytona International Speedway.

The accident occurred after Brad Keselowski made contact with Kyle Busch and sent the No. 18 M&Ms Toyota spinning in the middle of the pack. 

“The 2 car got on my back rear and just spun us around,” Busch said. “There’s room to lift and sometimes you don’t.”

Jamie McMurray, Trevor Bayne, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Sam Hornish Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Michael Annett and Ryan Newman were also involved in the wreck. Busch, McMurray, Bayne, Hamlin, Hornish, Edwards, Newman, Annett, and Truex were expected to go to back up cars.

“A couple of guys got in front of me right there,” Truex said. “They started checkin up in front of me and the 18 went sideways…A lot of damage. We’re going to a backup car.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted the fastest lap (202.284 mph) early in practice. Earnhardt was able to check up and avoid the wreck. 

“This would be a bad ass race during the day,” Earnhardt said after the wreck. “These damn cars don’t handle very good. It’s (freakin) awesome.”
