In his first NASCAR Winston Cup competition at Talladega Superspeedway and only the sixth of his career, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. showed outstanding driving abilities. While mixing it up four wide at speeds of 180 mph, Hamilton, Jr., remained in the top-15 for most of the day.

The next stop on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit is Phoenix, Arizona. Hamilton, Jr. has competed in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Division at the track, but not in the Winston Cup Series.

Morgan-McClure gained a provisional starting position after the qualifying attempt at Talladega. This will be the last provisional remaining for the team during the last five events.

Mike Skinner and his wife Angie were present at Talladega. It was the first race Skinner has attended since having ACL surgery a few weeks ago.

Bobby Hamilton, Jr., driver of the No. 4 KODAK MAX Film Monte Carlo, quotes:

"It was wild out there. We needed seven lanes to race on. I was pretty much on my own unless I could get up with the No. 55 and draft with him. The car was awesome.

"Towards the end, a bunch of the cars pitted when we elected to stay out. They had new tires and could pass me easily. I kept it wide open, but the car would slide up in the corners some.

"I think we can run decent at Phoenix. I will compete in the Busch and Cup cars there."

Larry McClure, owner of the No. 4 KODAK MAX Film Monte Carlo, quotes:

"Cub (Hamilton, Jr.) did a great job for us at Talladega. He is still learning. We did not have any problems with the car and the guys had decent pit stops all day.

"It felt good to see the No. 4 KODAK MAX Film Monte Carlo up towards the front for most of the day. I would like to see Jr., get a top-five before the end of the year. I think he is capable. He is a heck of a driver."
