Kahne Discusses Racing in the LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway:
Another strong weekend for the Budweiser Team - how important is momentum going into this weekend? "Momentum is so big in this sport. To win at a track like Pocono says a lot about this entire Budweiser Team. The excitement, the confidence and everything -- you go to Gillett Evernham right now and everybody is walking around there with a smile on their face, and that's not how it was a month and a half ago. But that's probably how it was in '06. It's just good. Everybody is excited. I'm just glad I can be part of it and I'm glad that I'm with Kenny Francis (Team Director) and he can give me cars as fast as he did in Pocono."
After winning three out of the last four NASCAR races, what do you think was the turning point for this team? "At the beginning of the season, Mark McArdle (director of competition) said that we were going to get this program turned around, we're going to build better cars. Our Pocono car was one of our brand new chassis, so it just proves that we are on the upswing. I personally know the ups and down of NASCAR racing. When you're up you have to take advantage of it because you never know how long it will last."
How important is the Chase standings to you right now? "As a driver, you watch the point standings each week - you can't help but to pay attention to it. We've been 12th, 13th or 14th the last month or two, or kind of all year, we've been in that area. So that's a spot that you as a driver -- I mean, you have to really be on it. You know there are cars coming from behind. There are cars in front of you that you can pass or that are going to pull away. So, it's tough. And the Chase is the main goal of the season. We need to be in the Chase and we need to be in there for Budweiser and everybody that's part of this Gillett Evernham Team. It doesn't matter if we're running 20th or 30th, we have to finish the race and get all the points we can, and at the end of the day, hopefully we make that Chase. That's our goal. We're going to do everything we can to be in the Chase."
