Nemechek Feels the No. 13 Has Found the Formula
BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 13, 2007) -- What the No. 13 Ginn Racing team learned in Pocono last week has Joe Nemechek feeling upbeat about Sunday's Citizens 400 Nextel Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.
Nemechek struggled early in Pocono, but after some drastic setup changes to the Haier Chevrolet, he rebounded to post a 15th-place finish.
"We really hit on something with the car's handling in Pocono," said Nemechek. "I was able to turn the car -- no slipping or sliding. This is something we've been working on since the beginning of the year. I really feel what we learned in Pocono will carry over in Michigan."
Nemechek, who will again drive the No. 13 Haier Chevrolet in Michigan, is looking to regain the performance level that he enjoyed at the track in 2005, when he captured a pole and had finishes of sixth and eighth.
"No question, the two-mile Michigan track is one of my favorites," offered Nemechek. "It's a lot like the California (Speedway) track and I have done okay there too."
In the February race at California, Nemechek finished 14th.
"Finishing 14th or 15th is not our goal -- we want to be in the top 10 or better," explained Nemechek. "When you go through a bad period, you don't expect to make big leaps. But we've felt all along that we have the talent and resources to get us to the top-10 level."
"We need to stay out of trouble and get on a hot streak," added Nemechek. "We need to start closing the deal."
