Riggs, Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper ready to tame the Irish Hills
STATESVILLE, NC (August 14, 2007) - For the third consecutive season, Gillett Evernham Motorsports and its drivers Kasey Kahne, Scott Riggs, and Elliott Sadler will be a part of the Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper family.
Scott Riggs will take his second spin of the 2007 season behind the Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper / Valvoline Dodge this Sunday at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan.
After a one-week hiatus, Scott returns to the seat of the No. 10 Dodge in hopes of continuing the team's climb into the top 35 in points. He hopes to finish one spot better than his career-high finish of 2nd in 2005:
"This weekend is important for us," said Riggs. "(Michigan) is a track that we know we have an opportunity to do well at. Rodney Childers and all the guys have been working to make these cars better for intermediate tracks.
"I've had some success here in the past and hopefully that repeats itself so we can get this team back to the point where we're not worried about qualifying in on time every weekend."
At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Gillett Evernham Motorsports cars switched to the 2006 Charger nose and body in hopes of turning the team's luck around for the remainder of the 2007 season. Riggs' team will continue with that game plan at Michigan, entering a car that qualified on the outside of the front row in last year's season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Riggs also looks forward to a strong weekend for all of the Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper employees in attendance:
"I've been lucky to have great sponsors throughout my career and Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper is no exception," commented Riggs. "I always look forward to spending time with the employees and store owners from Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper because they're real car people. I hope that I can put on a good show for them this weekend and come away with a top finish."
* Scott will be piloting Chassis No. 134, which was driven to a seventh place finish in the 2006 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway last year and recently raced at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. At Homestead, Scott qualified on the outside of the front row.
* The last time Scott raced in Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper livery, he qualified his Dodge sixth-fastest at Las Vegas Motor Speedway en route to a 23rd place finish.
* Scott has competed in 7 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup events at Michigan International Speedway, with an average finish of 20th. His best finish came in 2005 where he scored a career-best second place finish.
Speckman Automotive riding shotgun with Riggs
After receiving over 2,500 entries from member parts stores all across the United States, Speckman Automotive was selected as the featured parts store for Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series weekend at Michigan International Speedway on August 18.
As the winner of the random drawing, Speckman Automotive will adorn the hood of the No. 10 Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper Dodge driven by Scott Riggs in the 400-mile race in Brooklyn, Michigan.
Speckman Automotive is a family-owned business and has provided great service and quality parts for over 40 years. The business has two locations: St. Mary's and Wapakoneta, both serving the West Central Ohio area. With ASE-certified employees and a haven for over 300 brand name product lines, Speckman Automotive has been a member of the Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper group since 1994.
"We're blown away," said Craig Speckman, owner of Speckman Automotive. "We're excited about the opportunity to have our name on the hood of a Nextel Cup car. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get this kind of national exposure for a little two-store chain from Ohio."
"We're happy to have Speckman Automotive as our guests for the weekend," added Steve Marks, Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Advertising for Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance. "They embody what we look for in an Auto Value-Bumper To Bumper member. We'll make sure they enjoy their weekend at Michigan International Speedway."
