Front Row Teams Compare Notes at Michigan
Statesville, N.C. (August 10, 2010) - David Gilliland and the Taco Bell Ford team will take a new approach to Michigan International Speedway this weekend. In preparing the No. 37 Fusion for the Carfax 400, the team will compare notes with Front Row Motorsports teammate Travis Kvapil, who has had success at the two-mile oval during his NASCAR career.
Gilliland likes the fast, low-banked track in Brooklyn, Mich., but battled handling issues during the June race and finished 35th. He has eight previous starts at Michigan, with a top finish of 17th.
The team is coming off a 27th-place finish at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.
Comments from Taco Bell Driver David Gilliland on Michigan International Speedway and hitting the finish line on the family road trip:
"We're making good progress at this point in the season. We're still working on the new car that we built. And I feel like we've learned some things in the past couple weeks that we can take to Michigan and hopefully build on. Michigan is a fun track. It's an awesome track to race on. It's wide so you can run anywhere on the racetrack. But getting the car to turn there has just been a little bit tricky for us.
"We'll probably lean a little bit on our teammate. Travis (Kvapil) ran pretty good there last time. He's had a lot of success there and won some truck races. So we'll try to take some of the information that he's used pretty well and see if it can help us and make the Taco Bell Ford Fusion run a little bit better.
"We had some good accomplishments last weekend at Watkins Glen. I'm really proud of the Taco Bell Ford team for getting the car in the show and then for making the car better during the race. We would have liked to have finished a little better, but it wasn't bad for a team that doesn't have specialty cars like some of the other teams do.
"For those who have been following the Gilliland family road trip, Michigan is going to be the last weekend of the trip. It's been an adventure and a lot of fun with the whole family, going to a lot of great places in the motorhome. But we'll be ready to get home and get back to business. So, for everyone who's been following on Twitter and getting all the updates and photos of us camping and hiking and fishing, we're coming down the homestretch here. Maybe we'll get a final photo of the motorhome taking the checkered flag."
