MIAMI -- On Monday, Jeff Gordon scored his 49th career NASCAR Winston Cup victory at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.

On Tuesday, the three-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion visited Miami to promote the November 14 Pennzoil 400, the debut of Winston Cup racing in South Florida.

As part of his busy itinerary, Gordon visited the Nautilus Middle School in Miami Beach, where he met with members of a journalism class and addressed a school assembly.

"I was amazed at how many of the kids were saying, 'There's Jeff Gordon.' It's incredible how popular NASCAR has grown, when you visit a brand-new area and the kids recognize you."

A highlight of the day was a visit to the Miami Herald, where a 40-by-60 foot welcome banner with Gordonis likeness was unveiled on the side of the building facing the busy expressway on the Miami Bayside. Gordon also did a live on-line chat for the Miami Herald's web site, went live on the NBC-6 news, and did scores of interviews.

"This is an awesome area and an awesome track," said Gordon. 'We really looking forward to racing here on November 14."

Tickets are still available for the inaugural Pennzoil 400, and may be ordered by calling (305) 230-RACE.
