Menard “pretty close” to announcing new deal with RCR
Menard, who turns 36 this month, is in his sixth season campaigning in the No. 27 Menard’s Chevy. His sole Cup win with the organization came in the 2011 Brickyard 400.
When asked about the status of his contract with RCR after finishing second in Saturday’s Zippo 200 at the Glen, he told Motorsport.com that they are "pretty close" to an extension.
“We’ll get to that in the next few weeks and make sure we let you guys know,” he added.
After qualifying for his first Chase last year, Menard’s progress has been slowed this season by four DNFs. Last week prior to the event at Pocono Raceway, RCR promoted crew chief Danny Stockman Jr. from the Xfinity Series to the No. 27 team. Menard enjoyed a season-high third-place qualifying effort.
Unfortunately, Menard suffered an issue with his transmission and was forced to the garage for repairs before finishing 35th.
Menard’s former crew chief, Justin Alexander, guided him to the podium finish at the Glen.
Menard is on his 10th full season on the Cup tour. He’s currently 23rd in the Sprint Cup standings. Two of Menard’s three NXS wins were earned since he moved to RCR in 2011.
