Menard leads second Cup practice at Kansas
Paul Menard topped second practice at Kansas Speedway with a lap of 184.672mph (29.241-seconds).
Menard completed 32 laps during the windy 50-minute session, where the temperature never reached 70-degrees on Saturday morning.
Kevin Harvick (184.376mph) was the top Chaser followed by Kyle Larson (184.024mph), Chase Elliott (183.955) and pole sitter Matt Kenseth (183.836mph).
AJ Allmendinger, Trevor Bayne, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray rounded out the top 10 in single lap speeds. Kyle Busch’s 44 laps were the most completed in the session.
Of the remaining Chase candidates, Denny Hamlin (11th), Austin Dillon (13th), Carl Edwards (15th), Martin Truex Jr. (16th) and Joey Logano (18th) ran in the top 20 with Brad Keselowski (21st) and Jimmie Johnson (25th) bringing up the rear in single lap speeds. Both Johnson and Alex Bowman (12th) fought a bouncing sensation earlier in practice but the No. 88 Chevy worked out the issue in his second run.
Kyle Busch also was fastest in the Best 10 Consecutive Lap Average category with a speed of
182.530mph. Menard was second (181.964mph) followed by Carl Edwards (181.930mph), Kyle Larson (181.592mph), Tony Stewart (181.370mph), Jamie McMurray (181.028mph), Denny Hamlin (180.975mph), Matt Kenseth (180.946mph), Austin Dillon (180.860mph) and Brad Keselowski (180.595mph).
