MAYFIELD, EVERNHAM MOTORSPORTS INK MULTI-YEAR AGREEMENT
STATESVILLE, N.C. (June 4, 2005) -- Ray Evernham, president and CEO of Evernham Motorsports, announced today a multi-year contract extension with Jeremy Mayfield as the driver of the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger.
Mayfield is in his fourth year at the helm of the No. 19 Dodge Charger for Evernham Motorsports. He claimed his first victory for Evernham with a win at Richmond last September that also earned Mayfield a berth in the inaugural Chase for the Nextel Cup. He finished 10th in the final season standings.
"I'm really excited to be able to get this completed this soon with Jeremy," Evernham said. "He has been a great team player and is a perfect fit for Evernham Motorsports. Year after year he has shown that he can be a constant candidate to win races and make the Chase for the Nextel Cup.
"We're looking forward to several more years of a successful relationship between Jeremy Mayfield and Evernham Motorsports."
In the first three seasons with Evernham Motorsports, Mayfield had one win, 11 top-five and 29 top-10 finishes. This year, he has two top-five finishes and is just 24 points out of 10th in the season point standings and 99 out of fifth.
"Evernham Motorsports is absolutely the right place for me," Mayfield said. "Ray has made the commitment to make this a championship team. We have the personnel and resources in place to achieve that objective. We've had consistent improvement each year, finishing in the top 10 in the season standings last year. I have no doubt in the potential of this team."
Mayfield launched his Nextel Cup career at Lowe's Motor Speedway in October, 1993. He has four career victories, nine poles, 46 top-five and 89 top-10 finishes in his career.
"Ray and I have a great business relationship," Mayfield said. "It's a partnership because I believe in what he is trying to accomplish at Evernham Motorsports and want to be a part of it. Ray and I are also very good friends.
"I'm really looking forward to the future with Evernham Motorsports and the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger. I think great things are in store for us in the near future."
