Mast has Scare on Trip Home by Brett Borden

(June 29, 1998) Rick Mast, driver of the No. 75 Remington Arms Ford, was apparently a victim of dehydration on a flight from San Francisco to Atlanta on Monday morning.

Mast was flying home commercially when his flight was diverted to Denver so that he could be taken off the aircraft and checked out by medical personnel. Mast was administered to by four Denver fire department emergency medical techicians, but according to team sources it was simply a case of dehydration and Mast was able to take another commercial flight home later in the day.

The team plans to release a statement detailing Mast's condition Tuesday, including whether his participation in Saturday's Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway is in jeopardy.

Mast had finished eighth in the Save Mart/Kragen 350 at Sears Point Raceway at Sonoma, Calif., on Sunday. It was his first top-10 finish of the season, and his best finish in a points-eligible race since the Tyson Holly Farms 400 at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 1996.
