STEVE PARK (No. 1 Pennzoil Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Park will drive a brand new Monte Carlo at Martinsville. “You need all the help you can get at a place like Martinsville,” crew chief Paul Andrews said. “We tested it at Greenville-Pickens, and we think it’s going to be a pretty good car. A car is always lightest when it’s new, and this is a good place for a light car.” Park finished fourth last week at Dover, his fourth top-five finish in the past seven races since his victory at Watkins Glen in August. Park finished 25th earlier this season at Martinsville. He’s 13th in the NASCAR Winston Cup Standings (NWCS), 30 points behind 11th-place Matt Kenseth.
DALE EARNHARDT (No. 3 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo) Earnhardt will drive the same Monte Carlo that he finished ninth with earlier this season at Martinsville. Earnhardt finished 17th last week at Dover but moved back to second in the series standings. He trails leader Bobby Labonte by 249 points with seven races remaining.
BOBBY HAMILTON (No. 4 Kodak MAX Film Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Hamilton’s Martinsville Monte Carlo is the same one he drove to a 22nd-place finish at Darlington in the Pepsi Southern 500. Hamilton tested the car at Greenville-Pickens this week, and crew chief Danny Gill said the team was impressed with the test. “I think we’ll be ready for ‘em at Martinsville,” Gill said. Hamilton’s last win came at Martinsville on April 17, 1998. The Nashville, Tenn., native finished 18th at Martinsville earlier this season, 25th last week at Dover and ranks 31st in the NWCS.
TERRY LABONTE (No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Labonte tested his Monte Carlo this week at Greenville-Pickens. He ran the same car earlier this year at Richmond and finished 25th. Labonte finished 23rd earlier this season at Martinsville, 13th last week at Dover and ranks 17th in the NWCS.
MICHAEL WALTRIP (No. 7 NationsRent Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Waltrip will drive the same Monte Carlo he finished third with here in April. Waltrip finished 24th last week at Dover and ranks 28th in the NWCS.
DALE EARNHARDT Jr. (No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Earnhardt Jr. finished 26th at Martinsville earlier this season, and he’ll drive the same Monte Carlo here on Sunday. Earnhardt Jr. finished 16th at Dover last week and ranks 15th in the NWCS.
JEFF GORDON (No. 24 DuPont Automotive Finishes Monte Carlo) Gordon will drive Monte Carlo chassis No. 2447 at Martinsville. It’s the same Monte Carlo he drove to victory earlier this month at Richmond. It was a brand new car at Richmond. Gordon finished fourth at Martinsville in April and is the defending champion of the NAPA AutoCare 500. He finished ninth last week at Dover and ranks 10th in the NWCS.
JERRY NADEAU (No. 25 Michael Holigan.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Nadeau will drive the same Monte Carlo that carried him to a 10th-place finish earlier this month at Richmond. Nadeau finished 20th in April at Martinsville, 33rd last week at Dover and ranks 24th in the NWCS.
MIKE SKINNER (No. 31 Lowe’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Skinner will drive a Monte Carlo last run at Phoenix last year. It qualified 13th and finished 20th there. Skinner qualified third and finished 19th in April at Martinsville. He finished 11th last week at Dover and ranks 12th in the NWCS.
JOE NEMECHEK (No. 33 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Nemechek will drive chassis No. 9822 at Martinsville. He last ran it at Richmond and finished 40th. Nemechek, who celebrated his 37th birthday on Tuesday, finished seventh last week at Dover. It was his second straight top 10 finish. He’s 18th in the NWCS and finished 17th earlier this season at Martinsville.
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Marlin will pilot the same car he drove earlier this season at Martinsville. He also drove it at Richmond and New Hampshire with finishes of 24th, 20th and 22nd, respectively. Marlin finished 37th last week at Dover and ranks 19th in the NWCS.
TED MUSGRAVE (No. 01 BellSouth Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Musgrave will race the same car that competed earlier this season at Richmond and New Hampshire. Musgrave finished 23rd last week at Dover and ranks 42nd in the NWCS.
RICKY CRAVEN (No. 50 Midwest Transit Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Craven will drive the same Monte Carlo that he’s driven at New Hampshire, Richmond and Martinsville. “It’s about worn out, but I think we can get another good race out of it,” Craven said. Craven qualified 14th and finished 31st in April at Martinsville. He finished 36th at New Hampshire and ranks 45th in the NWCS.
KENNY WALLACE (No. 55 Square D Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Wallace will race the same Monte Carlo that qualified second and finished 42nd in April at Martinsville. Wallace finished 15th last week at Dover and ranks 29th in the NWCS.
RICH BICKLE (No. 60 Power Team Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Bickle will drive the same Monte Carlo the Power Team used at New Hampshire.
DAVE MARCIS (No. 71 Realtree Chevrolet Monte Carlo) Marcis will drive the same Monte Carlo he used at the first Pocono race this season.
