YOU NEED A WIN TO GET INTO THE WINSTON.
"Yeah, it would be nice. We've had a great start to the year. We've had our ups and downs, but we're still sitting 12th in points and I'm just happy to have a good top-10 qualifying effort here at Martinsville for the ALLTEL Ford. I'm happy to have come here and tested and be able to use the test to our advantage and qualify pretty decent. Congratulations to Jeff. He did an awesome job. It's hard to get that extra little hundredth or two-hundredth out of the car at a place like this and he's the master at it."
YOUR QUALIFYING TIME WAS SIMILAR TO PRACTICE.
"Yeah, I just couldn't get traction in qualifying. I was spinning the tires basically all three laps coming off the corner and you can only do so much when you're spinning the tires. You can't go forward."
DID THE CARS AHEAD OF YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
"No, the weather conditions have been almost constant since we got up this morning, so it's not been a big effect there. We've been beaten on the pole before by a couple clouds here and there, but being a tenth off today was just being a tenth off."
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT QUALIFYING COMPARED TO SOME OF THE OTHER ROOKIES?
"I think Jimmie Johnson was 14th or 16th -- he wasn't far off. He came here and tested and we tested at the same time. Five hundredths of a second can be the difference between 10th and 15th or 20th, so it's just purely a matter of how good a lap you get. We're definitely happy to qualify in the top 10. I wish we could have done better because I think we had a car that was capable of better, but I don't think that makes us any different from any other rookie."
