MARTINSVILLE, Va. (April 1, 2007) -- Joe Nemechek persevered and salvaged a 27th-place finish in Sunday's Nextel Cup race at Martinsville Speedway.

"Considering how far off we were in the beginning and getting lapped before the race was 30 laps old, I thought we made a pretty good comeback," said crew chief Peter Sospenzo. "We still have some work to do on the front-end of the COT (Car of Tomorrow). We did get better as the race went on, but we need to get this COT figured out before its next race."

Nemechek, who started the 500-lap race 30th, experienced handling problems early with his No. 13 Ginn Resorts Chevrolet Impala SS. He was running in 41st place when the second caution came out on Lap 36.

"No grip in the beginning," said Nemechek. "We hung in there and made adjustments all day. The Ginn Resorts Chevy drove better late in the race, but by that time we were too far back."

By sticking it out and battling to the end, Nemechek gained one position in both the driver and owner point standings. He is 27th in driver points and 25th in owner points. The top 35 teams in owner points have an automatic qualifying berth each week.

Nemechek and the No. 13 team will have Easter weekend off. The circuit will resume action for the April 15th race at Texas Motor Speedway.
