MARTINSVILLE, Va. (April 10, 2005) -- In a workmanlike fashion Joe Nemechek overcame early problems and went on to post a 10th-place finish in Sunday's Advance Auto Parts 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

It was Nemechek's best finish of the 2005 season, which has been plagued with one misfortune after another for the U.S. Army team.

"It's been frustrating up to now, but this is the boost that we needed," said Nemechek. "We've run well all year, but never got the finishes that we deserved. This is a good team and it's only going to get better."

Nemechek started 10th and was cruising in the top 10 for the first 100 laps. But a handling problem shoved the Army Chevrolet to the rear of the field.

After four new tires, the problem got fixed and Nemechek started to gain positions on the half-mile oval. But on Lap 256 of 500 another setback hit when Nemechek's right-front tire went flat, sending the U.S. Army Chevrolet into the Turn 4 wall.

Though the damage to the car was minor, the tire incident cost Nemechek valuable track position.

"Track position is everything at Martinsville," said Nemechek. "But we kept battling back and stayed patient. The pit stops were good, we avoided the big wreck and came away with a respectable finish at a very difficult race. Hopefully those demons that have plagued us the past four races have gone someplace else."

With momentum on their side, Nemechek and the U.S. Army team will head to Ft. Worth for Sunday's (April 17) race at Texas Motor Speedway.
