BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (12th):
ON THE MASSIVE CHANGES MADE DURING THE DAY TO SALVAGE A GOOD FINISH: "We took four rounds [of wedge] out at one point early on, then we actually put some back in and then we changed rubbers. We got really good there, but then we came in and the last two stops we put on four tires, never made an adjustment and had no forward bit after that.
"For whatever reason we were really good there in the middle part of the race, but lost it there the last few runs.
"Obviously, we were better at the end than we were at the beginning. We got track position through that good run and didn't end up giving too much of it back at the end.
WAS THERE ANY CHANCE OF TONY STEWART LEADING THE TWO OF YOU TO THE FRONT AT THE END? "Both of us looked like we were handling about the same. Both of us had a lack of forward bite towards the end of the race and both of us looked like the same type of car. We tried, but every time he'd lose the front end I'd lose the front end. We'd lose the back end about the same time, so we were pretty much the same."
GREG ZIPADELLI, CREW CHIEF,
NO. 20 HOME DEPOT PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (11th):
HOW DAMAGING WAS THE INCIDENT WITH THE '88' AND THE '8?' "I don't know. It's hard to believe a car that good just basically went to pot, but I don't know. I don't know if the rear-end housing got bent over or if we just didn't do a good job of adjusting on it. We really didn't need much. But, then all of a sudden we got that contact with the '88' and the '8' there. We'll know when we get home.
"It's a shame. I thought we had a really good top five car - maybe a shot at winning. But, it didn't turn out that way."
YOU STILL SURVIVED WITH NEARLY A TOP 10... "I guess. I guess that's one way of looking at it. We lost 15 points to the '48,' but actually gained one on Mark [Martin], so I don't know. We've got a few (races) left."
