(WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THE SURFACE NOW? "It seems like it's got good grip everywhere, except for mid-corner/exit to me. I don't know if that will rubber-up or not. We'll have to wait and see tomorrow."

JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (11th):

"That wasn't too bad. The Valvoline Pontiac wasn't that great at the beginning of practice, but we made more changes on this thing. I'm not saying we were disappointed. We were just trying to get a little bit more speed out of it. The car was OK comfortable, considering the conditions of the racetrack.

"I was really thinking we might have an outside shot at the front row. We didn't, but that's OK. I'm real happy ending up in the top 12."

YOU MADE A SIGNIFICANT JUMP FROM YOUR FIRST LAP TO THE SECOND LAP... "My goal was just to be nice and smooth and I think my first lap was a little too smooth."

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CHANGES MADE TO THE TRACK HERE? "Obviously, when we unloaded here it wasn't the best for grip. But, we knew that. We knew that anytime they do that it takes a little while to get the track surface back up to good racing speed. I'm sure everybody here will tell you it's slippery right now, especially forward bite. I think we can deal with the 'in' and the 'middle,' but the track has lost a tremendous amount of forward bite. But, it's the same for everybody.

"It will be interesting for the race. Maybe the outside groove will be a preferred groove. We don't know yet."
