Green's No. 66 Team Becomes 15th Checkers/Rally's Pit Crew Winner
Jeff Green's No. 66 over-the-wall crew became the 15th NASCAR NEXTEL Cup team to earn a win in the weekly Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge competition by claiming the honor in Sunday's race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
The Best Buy crew, which spent the least amount of time on Martinsville's pit road (285.023 seconds), helped lift the team to an eighth-place finish.
"I'm very proud of the pit crew for their hard work, not only this weekend, but for the entire season," said Green. "They've been doing a tremendous job for me each and every race, so I'm glad they're finally able to be recognized for it."
The No. 66 over-the-wall crew, which earned $10,500 for the win, consists of: Phillip Gee (jackman), Michael "Shrek" Morneau (front-tire carrier), Kelly Kellis (front-tire changer), Zach McGowan (rear-tire carrier), Daniel Smith (rear-tire changer), Robby Maschhaupt (gasman) and Derick Jennings (catch can). The pit crew coach is Wayne Holden.
With four races remaining on the NEXTEL Cup circuit, the pit crews of Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart are tied for first place in the Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge standings. The crew with the most victories at the completion of the 36-race schedule will be presented with a $100,500 bonus.
"It's exciting that there have been so many winners in the Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge this season," said Richard Turer, Vice President of Marketing, Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. "The Drive-Thru Challenge continues to highlight the importance of teamwork in NASCAR and we are proud to sponsor one of the richest contingency programs in the sport."
