Kyle Busch's Team Earns Pit Crew Challenge Win at Martinsville
With four races to go, Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge still up for grabs
Kyle Busch's No. 5 over-the-wall crew earned its third Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge win of the season by taking top honors in Sunday's Nextel Cup event at Martinsville Speedway. The win moved the No. 5 crew into a tie for second-place in the season-long standings.
"To win the pit crew challenge at Martinsville says a lot -- that pit road is so tight and hard to get in and out of," said Busch, whose team spent 242.325 seconds on the pit lane. "My guys are awesome -- they have been awesome all year long and I'm really proud of them."
With only four races remaining on the Nextel Cup circuit, the Checkers/Rally's Double Drive-Thru Challenge honors remain up for grabs. Mark Martin's No. 01 crew and Jeff Gordon's No. 24 crew are currently tied for the lead in the season-long competition with four wins each, while the crews of Busch, Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have collected three wins.
Checkers/Rally's will present Busch's crew with an $11,000 check for winning the weekly competition. An additional $111,150 prize will be awarded to the over-the-wall team with the most wins at the completion of the 36-race Nextel Cup schedule.
The No. 5 over-the-wall crew, out of the Hendrick Motorsports stable, includes: Rick Pigeon (jackman), Jeremy "JD" Holcomb (front-tire carrier), DJ Richardson (front-tire changer), Jason Jones (rear-tire carrier), Josh Kirk (rear-tire changer), Brad Pickens (gasman), Jason Dalrymple (catch can), and Kevin Hulstein (eighth-man). The team's pit crew coach is Mark Mauldin
To win, teams are required to finish on the lead lap while spending the least amount of time on pit road. Checkers/Rally's is in its third season as title sponsor for the Pit Crew Challenge.
