Joey Logano Turns in Gritty Performance in the No. 20 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota -- Finishes 12th at Martinsville
Martinsville, VA -- Joey Logano, driver of the No. 20 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Joe Gibbs Racing, finished 12th this afternoon in the TUMS Fast Relief 500 from Martinsville Speedway.
After a strong qualifying effort on Friday, Joey Logano started the grueling 500 lap contest from Martinsville in the 7th position. Martinsville is one of the toughest stops on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit -- a track that produces plenty of excitement and where keeping the fenders intact is almost impossible.
Prior to today's race, Joey had only competed at Martinsville once in his young career -- a less than stellar 32nd place finish back in the spring. However, Joey and the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing team have consistently improved each time they have returned to tracks for the second time, and that fact was visible today at Martinsville.
Throughout the first half of the race Joey and the team battled a very tight Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota -- slipping back in the early stages of the race. Fortunately, numerous cautions throughout the race provided plenty of opportunities for the team to adjust on the No. 20 Toyota and when the checkered flag waved Joey had raced back into the top-15.
"I'm glad that's over. It was a long day and this is a tough track. Overall, the No. 20 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota wasn't bad. It was really good on the long runs, which is tough because you don't get many of those at this track. I think there was only one long green flag run and we were able to gain a lot of track position there," said Joey Logano.
As a whole, it was a great day for Joe Gibbs Racing, Joey Logano was the top finishing Raybestos Rookie and fellow Farm Bureau Insurance driver Denny Hamlin took home the Grandfather Clock -- winning at Martinsville.
"It was awesome to have Farm Bureau Insurance on the car this weekend and to give them a solid finish. I'm also proud of my team -- we had a few rough pit-stops that could have done us in but they never gave up and we kept bouncing back," said Joey after the race.
